Traversing the Art World in San Diego

I stumbled upon a number of road blocks while traversing the art world in San Diego. All of which intersected with existing conventions, required organizational affiliation and fixed expectations. The artists, writers and project builders are subdued of their immense potential based on these standards. Venues for visual artists, criticism and even music are subservient to this limited capacity. There was a time in the 80's and early 90's when the arts in SD aspired to liberate itself nearly outside of THE box. With projects such as Insite, Installation Gallery, pop-up exhibitions, fanzines and a thriving music scene. Striking art & book reviews by Robert Pincus. I suppose this era was San Diego's legacy of sorts. However, this period also paved the way towards complacency and the above discourse. Never seemingly adapting to the many changes to come.
