Oceanside Museum of Art: Censors Art For Children’s Sake in the "California Dreaming" Exhibition. @oceansidemuseum

The following piece “KILL POINTS (LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION IS EVERYTHING)” by Barbara Sexton was removed from the exhibition. Apparently, it was considered too too “unsuitable” by a school district administrator planning to bring her 5th grade class to the museum. The Director of the museum, Daniel Foster, championed the children by requiring the artist to submit a replacement piece. Something, anything, appropriate for the young ones. The artist refused and the work was taken far away.

We visited the museum prior to the work's removal. The docents were repeatedly describing this work as "disturbing”, “very disturbing”. They were disturbing for Marianne and I. Very disturbing. Not real clear on why this would be censored? Is OMA affiliated with camp Pendleton? Probably not. I suppose the title of this work has taken on added context. Location, location, location, really is everything…
