Artists Selling Out: Being the Judge & the Jury (a short rant)

To each one's own ambition. I had an instructor who asked everyone in the room if they wanted to be documented in the history books. Everyone, but myself and one other student said yes, absolutely. The instructor was in disbelief and insisted the two of us were being disingenuous. The design, is not universal but very difficult to navigate around. The notion of fame and acceptance is an annoying obstruction to individual freedom, creativity, and productivity. If the intention of the artist contains high traces of noxious-dependence on other people it will be manifested in the work. Whether that is a good or a bad thing would either be determined by an autonomous artist or the artist's critics. A dilemma which all artists must unavoidably face. One of intentions, independence and/or (usually versus) the artist ego.
