"Street Art or Urban Street Art or Whatever"

The NEW contemporary fart is beautiful losers, urban outfitters, fashion-pop-punk, cartoony, animationist, fucking Flinstones deceit.

Makes me laugh and kills brain cells in the process.
Thanks in large part to art moguls like Jeff Dietch, the new director of MOCA, LA. Its not so much the type of work itself that turns my stomach, but the theoretical nonsense attached to this funzy movement of sorts. Shepard Fairey is a competent and highly prolific artist with seemingly sincere intentions. But, beyond "OBEY", street art, now, as a movement is no more than its given face value. The movement serves only to popularize contemporary art AS fashion, pop-culture and utter illiterate, political complacency. In terms of "street art" as a new phenomena? The only thing new is, the artists are "straight outta art school" not quite outta Compton and graffiti is the new chic. It is now a blurred line between art and life at Urban Outfitters, Starbucks or Nordstroms. As a movement I would characterize it relative to the corporate take over of counter culture --- and then there were none...
